There are a ton of brilliant kitchen hacks circulating around the internet. I mean, have you seen this potato peeler tip or even this salt shaker secret feature? Whatever makes cooking just a little bit simpler gets the stamp of approval in our book — especially with how time-consuming meal prep can be.
Prepping fresh herbs, specifically, can be a tedious task; taking the time to separate all the leaves from the stems can take quite a while. However, one Instagrammer shared a hack for preparing herbs that has our mind completely blown.
User @andcgram posted a Reel that is about to change the way you get fresh herbs ready for cooking. Rather than plucking individual leaves off the stem, the Instagrammer gently pulls a stalk of cilantro through a cheese grater that seamlessly removes all the leaves in one fell swoop.
The tip is ingenious if you’re preparing a meal for a large group of people or trying to handle different kitchen tasks all at once. Although, as one commenter mentioned, this might not be the best solution for all herbs. For example, it’s known that the stem of cilantro packs the most flavor, so chopping the stem up to include with the leaves will offer the most potent taste.
If you’re cooking with herbs like rosemary, dill, parsley, or mint, this hack could definitely save you a few minutes in the kitchen. You can also prepare your herbs in bulk and store in the fridge loosely wrapped in a damp paper towel or throw them in the freezer to use at a later date. If you’re looking to make meal prep a breeze, you may want to consider adding this hack to your rotation.
