It is more common for Black women to say they were pressured to undergo interventions that they wanted to avoid, studies have found.
The unwanted treatments included epidurals during labor, continuous fetal monitoring, cesarean sections and drugs to speed up delivery.
Black women more frequently reported that doctors did not consult with them on important aspects of birth, including whether patients wanted to have their water broken or had preferences regarding when the umbilical cord ought to be clamped.
