    Food trends are in a constant flux and even more so in 2018 as a wider variety becomes available from  the menu, food stores and of course the sources of recipes to create your own new and different meals, increases.

    Here we have 5 Top Food Trends of 2018, 5 that I have selected based on their perceived longevity in the market:

    VEGANISM

    I am pretty sure we all know several Vegans, those choosing to base their diet on Plant Based Foods. This is not surprising when you consider Veganism has, over the last 10 years, grown in popularity by a massive 360%!!

    And finally some of the Supermarket Brands have begun to pick up on the trend and place suitable product options for vegans and ensure labelling reflects suitability.

    FERMENTED FOODS

    Food fermentation is popular as a preserving strategy but also appeals to many palettes as well as having Pro-biotic qualities.

    Sauerkraut and Kim-chi are now household “pickles” we all know and the breadth and variety of fermented foods is experiencing growth Internationally.

    CRAFTY DRINKS 

    “Crafty Drinks” of course are Craft and Specialist drinks created for the demanding consumers who are looking for something extra special when they indulge in a cup of tea.

    Plus up and coming generations are looking for alternatives to alcoholic drinks in the social scene and now have a wide variety of soft drink options.

    Not only do we have the manipulation of drinks to meet demand we also have historically originated beverages such as the Georgian wines, steeped in thousands of years of tradition from the Soviet Republic, now being exported world wide to meet demand.

    ALTERNATIVE SWEETENERS

    Diet concious consumers are always looking at ways to reduce their cane sugar intake and there are several contenders filtering in as alternatives which mostly have built in additional health benefits.

    • Apple Sauce

    STREET FOOD

    As the population of consumers grows both in its knowledge and desire for diverse foods to experience a niche culture of Street Food Outlets rises to meet the need.

    Whether catered for from a Tented Kitchen, Dining Outlet or the ever popular Street Food Vans, the populous is clamouring for their take on Eastern Street Foods, with a focus on Korean style cooking.
