This is how to prepare this healthy soup:

Turmeric Lentil Soup with Coconut Milk- recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 apples, cored and grated
  • 2 cups red lentils
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 onion, diced finely
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 cup hot water

Method of preparation:

You should initially rinse the red lentils with cold water. Leave them to drain, and melt the coconut oil in a pot and sauté the onions until they become soft and golden.

Next, add the turmeric and apples, and cook the mixture for 2 minutes. Stir frequently, and add the water and the lentils. Boil the mixture, cover the pot and then simmer for 15 minutes.

Then, add the coconut milk and the spices, and simmer until the lentils are soft. Add a cup of water if you prefer it thinner, and leave it to simmer for 2 more hours.

You should serve the soup warm, and you should garnish it with pumpkin seeds and coconut shavings.

Enjoy!

Stop Buying Tangerines. Plant Them In A Flowerpot And You Will Always Have Hundreds Of Organic Tangerines!

Tangerines, lat. Citrus reticulat, are Mandarin oranges, which are simply abundant in nutrients, like vitamin C, A, B12, and potassium, and help the absorption of iron.

Tangerines offer various health benefits and have a magnificent taste and fragrance. Moreover, they are a potent ally against pathogens in this winter, as they significantly boost the immune system. They also nourish the skin and hair and slow down the aging process.

However, the following guidelines will help you grow them at home, without the use harmful pesticides:

-Purchase the seeds or wash the ones you have saved from the fresh fruits. Then, you should find a small pot with commercial potting mixture.

– Put a couple of stones and sand at the base, and then fill it with natural soil, like compost, or peat greenery.

– Pour water over the soil in order to provide the needed moisture, and set the pot aside to drain until the mixture is lightly moist but not soggy. Then, place the seeds into the soil, but do not press them too hard in it. Again pour soil to cover them.

– Place the pot into a plastic bag or cover it with clear plastic, to preserve the moisture and warmth, and thus speed up the germination process.

– Place the pot in a warm place, as it needs a higher temperature. Water it regularly, as the soil should not be dry, but not soggy.

–You can expect the first seedlings in around 20 days. As soon as they appear, uncover the pot, and keep it in a place with indirect sunlight, at around 70 degrees F.

– You should fertilize it about three times a month during the spring and summer. For best results, use a liquid fertilizer, as it is rich in magnesium, zinc, and iron.

-As the plant starts growing taller and grounded, you should transfer it into a bigger container. You might need to change the container a few times as the plant grows, or you can plant it in the garden in the spring, in some warmer area.

-Remember to cut off the withered branches.

-Voila! That’s all!

With a little work and enthusiasm, you can have your own, organic tangerine tree in the garden, and enjoy these healthy fruits whenever you wish!

Papaya For Rejuvenation

share

Christopher Columbus called papaya fruit of the angels. This delicious, sweet fruit with spherical or pear shaped form hides interesting secrets.

Vitamins

Papaya is a rich source of vitamin C and beta carotene, two powerful natural antioxidants. These two substances besides fighting with free radicals and prevent their action, also are slowing the process of atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Papain

Papaya is rich with the enzyme called papain or protease papain (cysteine protease), which acts to decompose proteins and peptides.
This enzyme helps in the process of digestion and encourages the elimination of the waste products. In some countries papaya is traditionally used in cooking with many types of meat. Today we know that actually this enzyme begins the process of decomposition of the meat and facilitates its digestion.

Papain also has anti inflammatory effect, i.e. relieves the inflammation in the body. If its properly used as a skin lotion(mask) dissolves the dead cells and acts as a mild exfoliation of the skin.
So here is a Papaya lotion recipe for exfoliation!

Lotion for exfoliation of papaya

Ingredients:

  • a large fresh papaya
  • cloth (gauze)
  • a cup of chamomile tea cooled

Preparation:

Peel papaya and remove the seeds. Then grind/mix the papaya in a blender or food processor. Drain the puree through a filter paper or a piece of muslin (gauze). In this juice add the chamomile tea, and make it 1:1, and stir well. With cotton balls apply the mixture on the face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes and skin area around them. Allow it for 10 minutes, and then rinse your face.
The mixture(lotion) can be stored in refrigerator up to 2 days.

Note

Do not use this lotion if you are allergic to papaya, pineapple, kiwi or nutmeg. Also, be careful how you are applying the lotion. Try not to come in contact with eyes.

Why You Should Keep Your Orange and Banana Peels

share

The skin of many vegetables is often more nutritious than the vegetable itself. Take potato peelings as an example, and we bet that you are probably one of many people that simply discard them.

Potato peel is loaded with fiber, vitamin C, contains an abundance of minerals, such as calcium, iron, potassium, and sodium. It is no surprise that the skin of some fruits can also be nutritious and useful for many purposes like oranges and bananas, for example.

Orange Skin

Orange skin works great, but the only thing you need to remember when recycling or using orange peels, or the skin of any other fruit, is that these are often treated with chemicals and pesticides to keep away any hungry insects. Luckily, oranges are less treated with pesticides than any other fruit during the cultivation process.

However, it is still better if you give them a quick clean. Prepare a simple solution using a tablespoon of lemon juice, a tablespoon of white vinegar, and a cup of ordinary water. Soak your oranges in the solution for a couple of minutes.

The Skins Are Golden

Peels and skins of many fruits and vegetables are rich in powerful nutrients, but orange peelings are actually a little goldmine. The peel from a medium-sized orange contains approximately 60 flavonoids and 117 different phytonutrients. According to Dr J. Bhattacharjee, an Ayurvedic medicinal guru, orange rind contains nutrients that are good for the skin and the body in general, and can do some good for your homes, too.

Health Benefits of Orange Peel

In the Ayurvedic terminology, the orange skin tastes titka, meaning bitter. Orange rind will not only help you boost your metabolism, it can also improve the digestion. It does miracles in the treatment of gases, heartburn, nausea and vomiting, and it is great appetite stimulant.

It is often used to dissolve phlegm, and as an aid in treating and pacifying asthma attacks.

These medicinal properties come due to the essential oils contained in the orange skin. They have strong anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, the essential oil called D-Limonene is powerful in diluting stomach acids, and maintaining good intestinal health. Last, but not less important, it provides normal function of the liver.

Reduces Cholesterol And Fends off Cancer And Osteoporosis

The latest studies have shown that orange rind can reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, meaning it is beneficial for people with high level of cholesterol. The studies also showed that the skin can fend off colon cancer and osteoporosis, thanks to the flavonoid called Hesperidine it contains.

Healthy Food For Kids

Parents should provide healthy meals for their children so they can be mentally and physically prepared for the day. While eating healthy meals, parents should educate their children about the importance of healthy food, and teach them to some healthy living rules they can rely on. Include your children in the process of “Healthy eating”.

When you go shopping, let your children choose healthy food instead of you and let them be helping hand while you cook. Teaching your children eat healthy at a young age, will help them build some healthy eating habits. Although forcing your kids eat junk/fast food is a bad idea.

Children like healthy foods a lot. Parents often pass these healthy food, and go straight to fast food such as pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, french fries, soda. Children should be aware of the effect of high-fat and high-calorie food, and eat more food rich in fiber, low in fat, rich in iron, calcium and other minerals and vitamins.

Milk

-Generally, children love to drink milk, but as they grow up, many kids drink less milk. After they turn 2, children should have their regular milk dose, including high-fat milk. Fat is necessary for the brain and nerves development. Advice: If your baby gains too much weight for its height, it’s recommended to switch high-fat milk to low-fat before the age of 2.

Milk is the main factor in building strong bones, because of the high calcium level. It is the best source of calcium. Milk is also rich in biotin, magnesium, selenium, riboflavin, pantothenic acid and many vitamins such as vitamin A, B12, D and vitamin K. Consumption of milk is effective in stimulating muscle growth and helping post exercise muscle recovery.

And if your child does not like drinking milk, try offering the flavoured kind of milk, or prepare fortified tofu, broccoli, white beans, or some cereals.

-Peanut butter is very healthy and it is made of dry roasted peanuts. Peanut butter contains protein, vitamins E and B3, folate, arginine, iron, zink, magnesium, dietary fiber and high level of antioxidant p-coumaric acid. Natural peanut butter does not have partially hydrogenated oils.

The best timing to start including peanut butter in your child’s diet is after the 14th month. Peanut butter is relatively high in fat, but it is often rich in polyunsaturated and mono-fat, so it is way better than other saturated fats, which can be found in other high-fat food.

Kids would love if peanut butter is included in many recipes, especially healthy cookies and candies. Peanut butter’s flavour can be combined with other flavours like oatmeal, chocolate, cheese, various types of sauces and with crackers and breads. Kids love this!

Fruit and Vegetables

-Fruit and vegetables enjoy deserved reputation of a great helpers in our daily effort to stay healthy and fit, and are associated with the reduced risk of many serious diseases. Studies have shown that by consuming fruit and vegetable you can reduce the risk of cancer (such as cancer of the oral cavity, throat, stomach, colon and respiratory system).

Fruit and vegetables help in prevention of various diseases, but they are also an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and fiber, contain low fat level and contain folic acid (green leaf vegetables).
Here are some useful and interesting tips, how to make your children eat more fruit and vegetables:

1. Make mashed pumpkin or sweet potatoes instead of regular mashed potatoes.
2. Power up pizza with tomato, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, green garlic and spinach.
3. Add vegetables in the soup.
4. Fill roasted potatoes with wheat grains, young garlic, mushrooms and red pepper.
5. Be creative when serving the salad. Do not just make a tomato and cucumber salad, you can also add some paprika, shredded mushrooms, grated ginger, onion chopped in circles, spinach leaf or any other favoured vegetables.

Fruit combination:

1. Add fruit in green salads – try adding pieces of pear, apple, grapes, mango, strawberries, almonds or blueberries.
2. Add a handful of blueberry, or grated banana in the dough for pancakes.
3. Add exotic fruits such as papaya, mango or pineapple in the fruit salad.
4. Blend some apples, ginger, carrot and orange, and serve it as a refreshing drink.
5. Pack fresh fruit in a plastic box, which the child will carry to school. Drain a little lemon juice at apples and pears to prevent it turn brown.

Little creativity and effort can stimulate your children eat more fruit and vegetables, enrich their diet, and thus get their body strengthened and boost their immunity.

Avocado seeds contain many health benefits. The avocado consists of polyphenols related to those found in green tea, and avocado seeds contain more antioxidants than most fruits and vegetables.

They also have more soluble fiber, which helps digestion and circulation. In South America, people use avocado seeds to cure dysentery and other GI tract problems. Containing a lot of phenolic compounds, these seeds are able to avoid bacterial and viral diseases, in addition to gastric ulcers.

Consuming this seeds can also prevent cardiovascular disease and strokes. They lower the cholesterol levels and avoid arterial plaque formation, shows a survey published in the journal Plant Foods in Human Nutrition, in March 2012.
